“In a space before time and words, the world was covered in a thick blanket of darkness. It was a warm and loving covering. Since it was hard for the spirits who inhabited the space to see one another they learn to live by and through touch. So if you were running around lost you knew you were found when arms reached out in that loving darkness to hold you. And those arms that held the spirits in that beautiful dark space before time are holding us still” - an excerpt from SISTERS OF THE YAM/Black Women & Self Recovery, published by South End Press 1993.
This Black August Full Moon weekend has me remembering, re-reading and self reflecting on the sensuality of darkness, pleasure, intimacy, self work and healing.
These are strange and curious times where being emotionally held feels sacred and special.
These are sad and isolating times that require rest, aloneness, vulnerability, intuition.
These are times to trust in our ancestors and spirit guides, but more importantly our own hearts, bodies and minds.
These times have been for Black women for all time.
May we be held with tenderness and care. ♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️
