The Free Black Women's Library, is an interactive Black Feminist mobile trading library and interactive biblio installation that features a collection of 2000 books written by Black women. The library is committed to centering and celebrating the voices of Black Women in literature. This mobile library pops up monthly in unique and radical spaces throughout Brooklyn, NYC and has also been to Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia and Baltimore. PLEASE EMAIL me directly at thefreeblackwomenslibrary@gmail.com if you have any questions or comments about this project.
A few weeks ago I had the distinct pleasure of being interviewed by the legendary Sandra Bookman for the lifestyle and culture tv series “Here and Now”
I was so nervous my entire script flew out of my brain as soon as the camera started to roll.
I’m still incredibly grateful for the opportunity. My interview airs today!!
The Free Black Women’s Library is an interactive biblio-installation that currently features over 900 books of varying genres written by Black women as well as visual art, film screenings, workshops, readings, book talk and critical conversations. The purpose/mission of the library is to center and celebrate the words, stories and lives of Black women from all over the world. The library pops up monthly and mainly in Brooklyn but has also been to Philadelphia, Detroit, Baltimore and Chicago.
To support the library feel free to send your favorite books by Black women to 1072 Bedford ave, box 39, Brooklyn, NY. To make a financial contribution which goes toward transportation and administrative costs as well as future website and app, you can make a donation to the crowdrise page. Thank you!!
I have started a Patreon page for those who would like to become a part of making The Free Black Women’s Library more sustainable.
Although this project is a sincere labor of love it is also time consuming and costly to maintain so I’m inviting you to invest in its growth and success.
All patrons will receive access to lots of fun nerdy artsy content related to Black women’s literature which will include top notch book lists, monthly audio or video book discussions and reviews, writing prompts, author interviews, artsy merchandise, audio and video readings, lesson plans/workshops for scholars and educators, and anything else my mind dreams up.
You can subscribe and have access to all the content for a little as two dollars a month!!
My goal is to gather enough subscriptions that add up to $1500 a month.
All funds will be used to cover the cost of the mobile Library’s transportation, storage rental, labor and administrative support.
Please feel free to share the link with others who might be interested!

I am raising money to support the growth and maintenance of The Free Black Women’s Library, a mobile library that centers and celebrates the voices of Black women in literature. The library uses books to build community by bringing people together monthly to connect around their love of reading.
Currently the collection contains almost 600 books of every genre written by Black women. The library travels throughout NYC and pops up at different locations like churches, museums, playgrounds, community gardens and anywhere else people gather. Along with the books it brings readings, performance, film screenings, writing workshops, book talks, and deep critical conversation.
All races, ages, and genders are welcome to trade books with the library.
Please help me spread the word and give what you can.
