“a sunrise or sunset was wasted on Mrs. Befoe. There were beautiful mountains, as mountains are always beautiful, off in the distance - purplish gray with the sunlight catching glints of the green trees growing richly on the smooth, graceful shapes.”
- “In Search of Satisfaction” by J. California Cooper
Last week I devoured this rich and hearty southern narrative which comfortably exists in my #library mind alongside classics such as “Their Eyes Were Watching God” and “Sula” but it definitely has its own very unique flavor.
This time traveling epic story features a long list of rich and complicated characters all living in a fictional small Southern town called Yoville, Black, white and Indian folks, each one of them connected by blood, marriage and circumstance but mainly through that basic human need and genuine search for love, pleasure, joy, affirmation, and peace.
